"This app has been blocked for your protection" Error When Trying to Install

The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection [The Sims 2 All in One] - The Sim Architect

If you get the dreadful error above, which means Windows User Account Control blocked your from running/installing the program even if you're running as administrator (in my case, on Windows 10 Enterprise), you should run secpol.msc (Windows Key + R to open the dialog box below). If you don't have secpool.msc because you're running Windows Home and not Enterprise or Professional Editions, you may be able to install it by following THIS TUTORIAL [External Link]

Then, you will open the "Security Options" portrayed below and change "User Account: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode" to Disabled:

Next, you'll change "Accounts: Administrator account status" to Enabled (optional, I think the step above is enough, try it first and try the one below only if necessary):

⚠ Restart your computer (even if you didn't enable the administrator account in the image above, because the secpol.msc policies won't be applied before you restart). Then try to install the game again. 😇

  1. hI! after like 2 months i decided to try again with sims 2, ive uninstalled and am in the process of installing everything again, and ive noticed an error that pops up that says "Please insert the correct CD-ROM, select ok and restart the application". Since its a CD error, maybe that was the issue i had originally?

    1. I think so.

      Try installing the last expansion of the pack, then going back to the others, maybe it helps.

      I just updated The Sims 3 (version 2022 now) and I also updated The Sims 4 with Gallery in our server with new installers.

      The Sims 2 will require extra work but it's on my "to do" list.

            1. No, just try to install the last pack, then go to the packs you didn't get well to see if they go easily now.

              Thanks for understanding. My brain is a bit worn out now that I have been working non stop for 10 days updating things. First was The Sims 3 2022, now the Lab Version of Sims 4 and now my head needs some rest. 🤪

        1. I was thinking about that. Maybe Windows 11 made security tighter?

          I will not be able to know how to fix it until I try to install it, sorry. I'll see if I do it on my computer during this week. Thanks for letting me know about the problem. 😇

          1. i kind of figured it out! you switch users on the PC and use the administrator profile (for some reason that exists even tho its a personal device) and you install everything like that!

            1. Ah! Thank you so much for letting me know! I will look into a tutorial teaching how to switch to the administrator user, so I can add it to this one. I guess they tightened security on Windows 11.

              1. im so sorry i think im doing something wrong. i checked and reinstalled everything in the correct order but its telling me i have the wrong disc now.

                    1. I saw that error before but it usually happened if I opened the file using WinRAR or 7-ZIP instead of letting Windows mount the iso as a disk.

                      Also, I don't remember if we had to unmount each disk after going to the next or if we had to keep the first one always mounted. Are you able to install the base game?

    I have synced all the Sims2 files, but when I right click and 'Mount' it, then select to autorun as administrator it still asks me to insert CD1 -- is there anything I can do to fix this?

      1. Hello again! Sorry for the late response. I'm not sure what you mean by virtual drive? I'm only trying to mount it through the Yandex disk, I haven't had any prompt through WinRAR etc. Do I need another application? Sorry! 🙂

    I've followed all the steps so far but when I attempt to autorun the base game as an admin to install it I still get the blocked error after trying both of the fixes above. Any ideas on what else I could try?

    1. Hi! I don't remember but I'll work on it as soon as possible next year, when I plan to release a new installer.

      Do you have a screenshot of the error? Maybe I can do some research if I have it.

  5. my year subscription just expired and i want to install sims 2 but after following everything its not working.. Could it be because I am not subscribed anymore?

    1. Hi! Since your subscription expired you lost access to the file server. I don't know what you have on your computer. but to be sure you have all files it would be advisable for you to have access to our file server (unless you made a full copy manually somewhere else in your computer and you have everything there, then you can follow the instructions).

      The Sims 2 is very tricky to install, I am working on a new super installer but it's so finicky that it's taking me much longer than expected, sorry. Keep me posted on how it goes, I wish you can use what you already have if you don't feel like subscribing again. I am grateful anyways 🤗

          1. Yeah. just got around to trying to installing. I followed directions exactly and I am getting the user account control error. I have no Idea what I did wrong.

            1. Sorry, it's a bit annoying. I had the same problem here and I got around it by running PowerShell as administrator, then entering the folder(s) that have the installers and running them manually that way. Sorry for the inconvenience. I am still working on a new installer that should fix all these issues, but I don't know when (or if) it's going to be available, sorry.

                1. Oh, I thought you'd know. You need to run the same things shown in my instructions above, but using the powershell command prompt instead of using the graphical interface.

                  The Sims 2 is a bit of an experimental thing and a bit tricky to install because of stupid security things built in Windows that make it almost impossible for us to run (because EA's executables are old, they're not modified, the modified files work normally, ironically).

                  I want to release a new version that's like The Sims 3 All in One that should solve these issues but I didn't get it done yet, sorry.

  6. Hi Downloaded the direct x for the sims 2 but it is still coming up with this error and i am unable to run the game. if clicking on the game icon it says that the cd not inserted.

    1. Hi! Please verify that you didn't miss any step (and that your anti virus didn't damage any file).

      It's been ages since I used Sims 2 so I don't remember well what could be wrong. And, of course, you need to have everything installed and follow exactly what's shown above (as far as I know, if you miss any little detail you may have problems).

      I have a new version in the works that will be like the Sims 3, but it's not working yet, sorry, so you'll need to have a bit extra patience with this one. 😉

      Please test somethings and let me know if you figure out what's wrong so I can learn too.

  7. Hello!

    I have managed to install the deluxe however when I try any other pack it asks me to put the CD in before installation. Also on Yandex there is ‘x’s on all files for sims 2. It doesn’t want to sync or add to computer. I her a notification that says There is an error with it because the sims 2 files are read only.

    I managed to extract all files onto my computer manually but I still get the CD error. I have mounted the ISO. But this hasn’t helped and now the ISO is gone. I’m totally confused 😅 any help would be appreciated ☺️ Thank you

    1. I don't know what you're trying to do. You're supposed to sync the entire folder that has the entire Sims 2 collection. Then, only after all files have a green checkmark, you're supposed to follow the instructions above 😇

  13. I have installed all the packs, the launcher shows this as well, but when I get into the game it claims i have several packs not installed? I did deal with the make sure disc is in error as well.

Just need a lil help, when installing the University pack, it finishes (gets to 100%, says 'completed') and then after an error appears saying something like "unable to install correctly, terminating installation now" and it reverses the download progress from 100% to 0% :'( Any tips for this?     1. Oh no, sorry to hear. I am not sure what could be happening. Try running the installer as administrator and keep in mind you need to mount the iso or extract it entirely before using the files. If you use Winrar to open it and try to run from there you'll get unexpected results. Also, follow the instructions very closely, since this is a very old and trycky game to install. Keep me posted. I hope you can make it work and that we can learn from your experience, since I am a bit clueless about it 😎

      1. Hi, sorry for the late reply, I gave up on trying to install but decided to try again today!
        From looking online, it appears that possibly an update is needed for the files in order for the Uni pack to work - (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/games_windows_10/how-to-install-the-sims-2-expansions-on-windows-10/9c7ceaea-ac53-46b7-abaa-d90f00dc0da9), but since other people are using the same files you've provided and having no issue, I'm not sure whether this is the case.
        I decided to test and see if I was able to install the next expansion pack in the list and that installed with no issues. I'm going to try to install the rest of the expansion packs now and see if I run into anymore issues, I'm just hoping my game will still play without the University pack! Thanks again <3

          I didn't play with Sims 2 since years ago, to be honest. I only installed it to test things out, but it's been a decade or so since I last touched it, as Sims 3 was always my favorite and before that I used to play with the Original Sims. I had Sims 2 and enjoyed it but only briefly, because it was a very busy period in my life 🏢👨🏻‍💼

  16. Hi! I managed to install and open the game without problems, but it crashes everytime that I open a family to play. The stories of the neighboroods are blank and it crashes if I try to edit them. I try everything (I start the game in compatibility mode, I run it as an admin, I downloaded graphic rules maker), but I keep having the same problem and it's impossible to play.     1. Hi. Did you install all the expansions in the right order, and applied all the patches and did everything else? I know it's very tiresome to install this version of the game, but it was the best I could find so far. Thanks a lot for your support and for your kind words. I wish you can make the game work 🙏🏻

  17. Hi! I've been trying to install the Sims 2 from Yandex but it's been on 100% for the past few hours. It doesn't show the green check mark yet beside Sims 2. Is this a normal occurence or should I just keep waiting? Thanks!

  18. Hi there! I was able to successfully install the base game, however when open auto run on University it tells me to insert disc 1 and I can't bypass it.

    1. Did you mount the ISO or did you try to open it with WinRAR? If you used the latter it won't work. You need to mount the ISO (right click the file and select "mount") instead.

    1. Please try the command prompt (with administrative privileges) and run the same file from there. You likely have Windows Home, which doesn't give you gpedit or secpol, wich only come with Windows Pro and Enterprise Editions. Let me know how it goes.

    2. Or perhaps you'd prefer to try this: https://www.majorgeeks.com/content/page/enable_group_policy_editor_in_windows_10_home_edition.html especially this one: https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/policy_plus.html seems to be a nice tool that gives you extra settings for Windows Home.

      Sorry for the inconvenience, it's quite frustrating that Microsoft keep blocking us, but in comparison to Apple (and phone companies like Samsung) it's a bit easier to find workarounds in our case 😇

  20. When I try to run the Autorun.exe it says an administrator has blocked me from running it. I am the only admin on my PC, so this makes no sense to me. Do you happen to know why this is and what I could do?
