There's Four Types or Renovations: Level Additions (Illustrated Above, you're supposed to add a new floor to a building), Level Renovations, Room Additions and Room Renovations - You can also renovate residential and commercial lots by clicking on that "Show All" button!
Sims 4 Dream Home Decorator - Level Renovations, where you're supposed/allowed to renovate a level / floor / multi room space.
Sims 4 Dream Home Decorator - Room Addition is the type of job where you are supposed to add a new room to an existing building.
Sims 4 Dream Home Decorator - Room Renovations are the most restrictive and the only type allowed when you start your career, since they only allow you to modify the contents inside a room.
The more you advance in the Interior Designer Career, the more Slots you will see with your client's likes and dislikes...

Very similarly to what we had on Sims 3, but a bit more detailed, you get to know your client to figure out your client's preferences, you have a performance and reputation, a budget and a goal, plus requirements. Even if you know your client, or even if it's a recurring client, their tastes change and you need to ask everything again... 🤦🏻♂️

You can see the restrictions and requirements, amongst other things, during build mode, so you don't need to remember everything or keep alternating between Live and Build Modes!
Clicking on what your client likes take you to objects that will give you positive points related to it (neat!) You can do the same if you want to build something your client hates by clicking on their dislikes 😆

You can use Auto Sofas or you can chose the individual components manually like you can already do with counters and cabinets!
